AI Chat Advertising vs Google Search Ads: What’s the Difference?

Digital advertising is rapidly evolving. While Google Search Ads have been used for years to connect with customers, AI chat platforms are developing a new method of connecting brands with customers.

So, what is the difference between them?

Both can be used to bring the attention of potential customers to businesses, but they seem to be coming at a different time in the customer journey. With Google, it’s typically aimed at people actively looking for something, whereas AI Chat Ads are targeted at users who are seeking answers, seeking to explore ideas and seeking personalized recommendations.

The difference between these two can help businesses make decisions on where to allocate their ad money.

The Basics of Google Search Ads

Google Search Ads are primarily based on search intent and keywords. When a user enters a query into Google, ads are displayed for their query.

For instance, if an individual enters a keyword like “best running shoes for beginners” into the search box, they might come across a few ads from various shoe brands. This user already has a need, and that makes search advertising very effective for businesses with a need-to-compare and/or need-to-buy group of customers.

Every single time, that’s Google Ads’ greatest strength: That existing intent. They are actively seeking out a product/service; this means that businesses are able to present their offer directly to them at the right time.

The mechanics of how AI Chat Advertising works

AI Chat Advertising is different. As opposed to a traditional list of links that a user traverses, the user communicates with AI and provides it with a question and then chooses link #1, 2, or 3. You might be asked, “Which laptop should I purchase for graphic designing? or what are the best skin care products for dry skin?

These users may not be ready to buy the second that they view your product. They are actively exploring and contemplating their choices however.

That’s where chatgpt ads come in handy and can offer a new kind of advertising opportunity. Brands can be able to tap into the user’s mind when they are seeking information, recommendation, or a solution for their problem.

The difference between Search Intent and Conversational Intent

The most significant difference is how consumers use each platform.

When Google users search, they tend to enter search terms in the search bar. The questions they ask may be simple and straightforward, like the above two examples.

Longer, more detailed questions are asked by AI users. They can provide a description of what is happening to them, what they need, and seek advice.

This makes the intent more “naturalistic”. AI advertising doesn’t just match keywords but also tie them to the intent of a user’s query.

Which One Is Better For Businesses?

It is a non-specific question to which there is no unique answer.

With a well-defined product and search demand, Google Search Ads can work wonders for your business. Google can directly connect you to the people that are already searching what you sell.

AI chat ads could be better suited for brands that thrive on recommendations and in-depth decision-making processes. In sectors where customers require assistance in deciding on a product or service, Chatgpt ads can prove to be particularly intriguing.

The answer of course will differ, depending on where your audience is looking for their answers.

Businesses might find it useful to use both

What’s the point in doing one when both can be used for other things?

Google Ads can target users actively looking for a product, whereas AI ads can engage users in their research and comparison phase.

All these channels can complement various touchpoints of customer experience.

The emergence of a new search paradigm brought about by AI could make ads a more significant element in digital advertising plans.

    Grasp the Customer Journey

Google Search Ads are typically directed towards users who are already actively looking for a product or service. AI chat ads have the potential to engage users at a much earlier stage of the process, before they’ve started to compare and research options, or even ask questions.

    Measuring Advertising Performance

Clicks, conversions, and cost per click are all things that Google Ads is typically targeting. AI chat advertising can also track metrics such as engagement, leads, and brand visibility. As this form of advertising evolves, companies will have to monitor the correct indicators that produce successful outcomes.

     Final Thoughts

Google Search Ads and AI Chat Ads are no rivals. They provide two different opportunities for them to contact potential customers.

Google is a very much keyword and intent driven search engine. AI chat ads are more oriented toward chat, context and recommendations.

The prudent thing to do is to get to know both for businesses. Brands that are able to reach consumers at the right time will benefit from the ongoing evolution of customer search, question and decision-making behaviors.
